Howard Matthew Moses Long is an actor, sports analyst, and American former National Football League defensive end. He is best known as being 8-time Pro Bowler and one-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Long played in the NFL for 13 seasons and spent his entire career with the Raiders franchise, in Oakland during his rookie campaign in 1981 and in Los Angeles from 1982 to 1993

Howie Long was born on January 6, 1960, as Howard Matthew Moses Long in Somerville, Massachusetts, the United States. As of 2019, his age is 59 years old with his birth sign Capricorn. He was born to parents Howard Long (Father) and Margaret (mother).

His parents separated when he was very young and started living with his uncle and grandmother. He holds an American nationality and belongs to the white ethnic background.

Howie joined Milford High School where he started playing football. Besides football, he had also played basketball as a forward for more than three years. Later on, he enrolled at Villanova University.

In 1980, after leaving college, soon Howie selected in the second round of the 1981 draft by the Oakland Raiders. He had to play for 13 seasons, wearing the iconic number 75. His “rip” signature defensive move always received a thumbs up each time it breaks an opposing player’s blocker’s grip in those seasons. Besides this, the man was an integral part of the team and made it to the super bowl XVIII in 1984.

After that, in 2000, he honored for his contributions and inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Finally, a truly successful professional football career, Long retired after the 1993 NFL season. After retirement,  he began featuring in predominantly action movies.

He began in films such as Firestorm3000 Miles to GracelandIn That You Do! and Broken Arrow alongside John Travolta. In the movie Broken Arrow, he had a popular sound effect attributed to him during his death scene which soon termed the “Howie Scream”. Besides his acting career, he has pursued a broadcasting career and is presently an analyst for Fox Sports’ NFL coverage.
