Joseph Walter Jackson was an American talent manager and patriarch of the Jackson family of the entertainers. Joseph Jackson was the best known for being the father of international pop superstar Michael Jackson. In 2014, he was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall Of Fame as a member of the class and the rest of the famous Jackson Family.

Joseph Walter Jackson was born on 26 July of 1928, in Fountain Hill, Arkansas. He was of African and Native American Ancestry. He was the eldest of five children. His father was a high school teacher named Samuel Jackson and a mother Crystal Lee King, was a housewife. When Jackson was 12 years old, his mother and father were separated. Unfortunately, He died on June 27, 2018 cause of  Pancreatic cancer.

Jackson remembered from childhood that his father was domineering and strict, and he described himself in his memoir. Jackson Lived lonely in childhood and had few friends when he moved with his father to Oakland, California. His mother moved to East Chicago Indiana. And he also moved to Indiana to live with his mother, brothers, and sister when he turned of 18 years old. He got a job at Inland Steel Company in East Chicago. Doing continuously work, he could not finish high school.

When he was in Indiana, he began pursuing his dream of becoming a boxer. He found success with the Golden Gloves and was preparing for a professional athletic career. When he met 17-years old Katherine, he was already a married man. Joseph married another woman and in less than a year he was divorced before he started dating Katherine.

Joseph Walter Jackson got married to Katherine on November 5, 1949, and purchased a small house in 1950. The couple’s first child, Maureen ReilletteRebbieJackson, was born four months later on May 29, 1950, in the Jackson house. Joseph left his hopes of becoming a professional boxer in order to support his family and began working there as a full-time crane operator. later he took a second part-time job at American Foundries in East Chicago.

His wife Katherine tended to their growing family. After a bit, in the late 1950s, she started working part-time at Sears in Gary. In the early 1950s, he began performing with his own blues band playing guitar. The Falcons did not get a recording deal and broke up after one of their members, Thornton “Pookie” Hudson, founded his own band in 1952.

Joseph Jackson Began working with his sons’ musical group with his three eldest sons, Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine in the early 1960s. Later on his younger sons, Marlon and Michael eventually joined the backing band and began rehearsals with his sons. The Jackson Brothers named changed to The Jackson after Michael’s increased vocal presence.

Performing in talent contests and high school functions, they finally booked more and more respectable venues and finally landed a spot at the renowned Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York City. The Jackson 5 was signed a first professional contract with Gordon Keith. The group’s first single Big Boy with Michael Jackson as the lead singer.

Big Boy by the Jackson 5 became a local hit and the brothers became local celebrities after it was played on radio stations in the Chicago-Gary area. During the year, Jackson helped to land his sons an audition for Motown Records in Detroit. The Jackson 5 was signed with Motown in March 1969. Jackson later transmitted his family to California and supervised every recording session the group made for Motown. They began to receive the nationwide fame after their first single for Motown in January 12, 1959, I Want You Back“, hit #1 following its release on October 7, 1969, followed by their first album, Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5 in December 1969. Jackson felt dream come true that his dream to make his sons the first African-American teenagers to become internationally known recording stars had come true.

Joseph had also formed his own record label, Ivory Tower International Records and signed artists under his management in which they toured internationally with The Jackson 5 as opening acts in 1974. Michael Jackson had arranged a deal where they could eventually produce their own songs, leading to Motown retaining the Jackson 5 name, so they renamed themselves.
